One of the major undertaking of APWA Overseas Branches is to develop a sense of awareness, and to create bonds of friendship across the globe.
In view of this objective, the first Memorandum of Understanding was signed in 1983, by Ms. Meherafroze Habib, the then Vice President of APWA who established the APWA Toronto Branch. It is a registered NGO with the Canadian Government.
In 1984 the Maple Project was initiated.
In recognition of their commitment to promote education for deserving and needy/merit students in Pakistan and to promote higher education, APWA’s Toronto Chapter was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by Jim Karygiannis, Member of Parliament, and  member of the Canadian government.
Toronto Chapter has sponsored more then 120 students for further advanced studies till they graduate.
Coincidentally the first student to receive The Maple Scholarship graduated with Honours from NED Engineering College and received the Governors Gold Medal.
For the past 30 years, the Founder National APWA has been the link between APWA Pakistan and the Canada Chapter and is now President.
